Three students from Food Science and Technology Department of KNUST won the top three Awards on poster presentation during the 4th annual Sweetpotato for Health Initiative (SPHI) Technical and Steering Committee Meetings held on 7th - 9th October, 2013 at the Noda Hotel, Kumasi. SPHI is a platform aimed at promoting the consumption of sweetpotato in Africa. The student were Leticia Effah-Manu (1st Prize), Mr. Eric Owusu Mensah (2nd Prize) and Hannah Ayowa-Gyedu (3rd Prize). Hannah Ayowa-Gyedu was represented by Ryan Osei-Asibey during the meeting. They received cash prizes.

Their posters were selected out of many posters presented by students from different African countries. The posters were on Sweetpotato roots breeding and utilisation. The students were supervised and mentored by Professor (Mrs) Ibok Oduro, Head of Food Science and Technology Department of KNUST.
